Trains and buses

Fremantle Train Station and Bus Port provide direct walking access to Fishing Boat Harbour, museums and galleries, the shopping district, cinemas, the Cappuccino strip and restaurants.

Trains to and from Perth operate from the Fremantle Train Station by Transperth, with buses connecting to meet with trains. There are bus stops in and around the city making it easy to get around. Visit the Transperth website for schedules and service interruptions.

Free CAT bus

Two free Central Area Transit (CAT) buses operate in the Fremantle area and are free to board for all passengers. The blue CAT Services depart every 10 minutes and the red CAT services depart every 15 minutes. Both services run 7 days a week, except on Good Friday, Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

All Fremantle CAT buses are modern and high–tech, complying with the stringent EURO2 emission standards. They are easily accessible with kneeling actions – a driver activated entry ramp and low floor. To board, simply wait at any CAT stop shown on the Fremantle CAT timetable.

View the Fremantle CAT bus map.

Biking

Although Fremantle is built on a series of hills, the most interesting parts of the city – the city centre, the historic West End precinct, Fishing Boat Harbour, Swan River and the beaches of Leighton, Port and South Fremantle – are all reasonably level and easily accessible by bike. Dedicated bicycle lanes throughout the city and shared cycle paths running north, south and along the river make it easy for cyclists to move around.

The City of Fremantle’s Free Wheeling Fremantle initiative, is a free bike hire service suitable for adults and teens. You can use the bikes anywhere in the Fremantle area, allowing you to explore the city at your own leisurely pace.

Bikes are available from Wednesday to Sunday, 9.00 am-5.00 pm from outside the Fremantle Visitor Centre.

Walking

Fremantle is a pedestrian friendly city with a range of walking trails to suit all interests. The Cappuccino Strip, Fishing Boat Harbour and West end precinct are popular tourist areas easily connected and accessible by foot.

The local beaches and parks located within the City of Fremantle also provide scenic and mostly accessible walking routes for residents and visitors to enjoy.
